BODY
A swollen tongue with teeth marks could mean dampness + lack of flow in the body. Perhaps not enough Qi / energy is available to digest foods properly. Diarrhea and loose stools may also be a complaint. A dry, cracked body could represent internal heat drying out the fluids. The individual may be struggling with constipation as well. COLOR Tongue colors can range from pale, red, blue, and black. Red usually means heat + internal fire, while blue could represent the cold or blood stagnation within. Over indulgence of fiery foods, such as alcohol, coffee, meats can flare up a color. Deep colors could also represent emotional blockages. COAT A normal tongue would present with a thin white coat. A thick coating indicates poor gut metabolism. An overgrowth of bacteria or yeast can also show up as a thick coat. No coat could be a sign of exhaustion from the stomach. A 'normal' tongue can vary between individuals. Consult with your acupuncturist or TCM practitioner to learn more about what your tongue is saying about you!
