What is Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary health care that emphasizes prevention and specializes in natural therapies. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are trained as primary care practitioners during their four-year medical education and must pass professional board exams (NPLEX I & II) before they can be licensed by a state or jurisdiction. In addition to a standard medical curriculum, NDs are trained in clinical nutrition, homeopathy, botanical medicine, physical medicine and counseling.
There are seven accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America. It is of utmost importance that you seek naturopathic care from a licensed, registered naturopathic doctor who graduated from one of these seven schools, recognized by the The Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC).
